Description: |
| A two-piece metal button for fabrics (called "military button" in the specifications); the drawings include illustration of a pliers type tool used to compress the hollow stem of one portion around an indented shank of the other portion to accomplish a secure connection.
W.H. Reed appears as "signer" on the specifications, with Somers & Atwood listed as witnesses. The specifications have a typographic error which misstates the original patent number.
Somers and Atwood received another patent for a tool used to secure the two portions. (see number 83,669 granted Nov. 3, 1868) |
