Description: |
This patent anticipates the Robertson screw (patent {}) but 30 years. However, inventor Cummings did not describe a method to form the recess in the screw heads: "The cavity may be formed in the screw-machine at the time the screw is made, by any of the well-known mechanical processes, this being no part of my invention, and requires no description here." Given how much effort Robertson, Thompson and Phillips made in describing how to manufacture their later screw-recess designs, Cummings' "requires no description" is over-optimistic. |
