Description:
"The tool attachment herein disclosed is applied particularly for the formation of grooves in the surface of a cylindrical surface such as the periphery of a forging roll. In this type of work the grooves to be cut vary considerably as to longitudinal relief or depth and transverse relief. Each groove, formed in the roll, is a special cutting operation including shoulders and depressions throughout its length creating a problem in which movement of the tool must be definitely controlled and the repeating cuts uniform as the tool is moved into the work. For this purpose a relieving attachment is mounted on the cross slide of the lathe, in which a tool is mounted, on a pivoted tool holder rocked toward the work by means of templet cams..."
