Description: |
Adjustable alligator type pipe wrench including alternatives for replaceable gripping jaws faces, and a swinging grip which could be moved to either jaw face. A spring holds the jaws in "normal open" position.
The DuCharme Wrench & Novelty Co. was formed at Johnstown, PA to produce DuCharme's designs. "New product announcements" for the designs appeared in trade journals in late 1910. This design was called the "Fixture or Ceiling Wrench." The company moved to Cambridge, OH at the end of 1910. Based on the company history, it appears these were produced at Cambridge, OH.
The swinging gripper appears in altered form in a wrench produced by the Efficient Vise & Wrench Co. of Cleveland. W. S. DuCharme was President of that company in the early 1920s. Another wrench product of that company was based on DuCharme's patent no. 1,293,734. |
