Description: |
Pliers type tool for opening and closing chain links. Advertised in 1920 as the "Link-Key" chain pliers by Mayhew Tool Co. of Williamstown, MA.
Other than being formed of stamped metal parts rather than forged / cast parts, functionally it is nearly identical to patent no. 1,320,547 granted to Edward F. Happensack of Cincinnati, OH ( also on Nov. 4, 1919! ) -- the patent used for the I.X.L. and other chain pliers. Happensack's application is dated nine days earlier than this patent's. |
