The adjusting nut and movable jaw move along a threaded shaft that has pivoting attachment to the frame at the head holding the "fixed jaw." The head includes a spring which holds the movable jaw engaged with the work piece.
Known examples marked "Quick Release / Pat'd 7-12-04 / Beaver Falls, PA" have the entire handle and body formed of bent stamped sheet metal; there is a strengthening core in the handle beyond the adjustment limit of the movable jaw.
