Description: |
The key feature of the patent is sockets with larger sizes at the opening, and smaller sizes within. The principle could apply to "box end" wrenches as well as detachable sockets.
Corresponding U.S. patent 445,451 was granted Jan. 27, 1891. Both patent dates were noted prominently in advertising. Corresponding British patent GB-189104362 was registered March 11, 1891, and the open ends appear in patent no. 485,290.
Malleable iron "carriage wrenches" in a range of sizes were produced based on these patents. Miller also advertised a ratchet wrench -- MILLER'S REDUCING WRENCH [ see patents 239,972, 243,942, 253,549 and 485,290]. |
