Description:
The patent describes a mechanism that combines reciprocating motion, periodic progressive motion, and periodic "lifting" motion for a valve grinder. The "holder" for the valve incorporates a magnet or electromagnet.

The reissue became the focus of a patent infringement lawsuit ( Specialty Machine Company v. Ashcroft Manufacturing Company). Ashcroft's combination drill and valve grinder was based on July 12, 1910 Blanchard patent no. 963,986.

This patent date appears in advertising for the "Sioux" valve grinders made by Albertson & Co. of Sioux City, Iowa. (see patent no. 1,282,018)
