See entry for design patent D115,416 for example of Blackhawk's TORKFLASH wrench. The rotating scale (Fig. 5) shows readings for U.S.S. and S.A.E. bolt diameters, foot pounds, inch pounds, and spark plugs as examples; the specifications note any known standard of sizes with known torque values could be used.
The interior of the structure holding the scale houses a battery and flashlight bulb, with appropriate insulation and contacts to form an incomplete electric circuit. The pointer is adjustable, and in one mode of operation can be set so the circuit to light the flashlight bulb is completed when the desired torque is attained. |
