Description: |
Strap wrench -- the strap is tightened by a hook on an adjustable sliding frame. The end of the strap has a metal loop to engage the hook.
The specifications disclaim any pertinent features appearing in British patent no. 10,674 of 1891.
Corresponding Canadian patent CA-65,360 granted Dec. 15, 1899 names William Quinby as assignee. Quinby was also named assignee for Fred E. Sands' patent 667,852; that patent is the Gifford wrench with a chain rather than fabric strap. Sands' patent 667,853 for an improved mode of attaching the strap to a Gifford wrench was assigned to the Gifford Pipe Wrench Company, of (Kittery) Maine. Sands was one of the incorporators of the Gifford Pipe Wrench Co. A subsequent Sands strap wrench patent (no. [689,325} ) was assigned to TRIMONT. |
