Description: |
The patent describes a clamp-on auxiliary structure to convert a brace socket wrench into a double socket with the second socket acting as a nut holder with the primary socket turning the bolt. A spring pulls the holder socket toward the primary socket.
The primary application inspiring such designs was the oil pan of the Model T Ford engine which used bolts to fasten to the engine block rather than cap screws.
The WALDEN-WORCESTER No. 6418 Nut Holding Attachment For Socket Wrenches shown on the "Alloy Artifacts" web site resembles this patent although it is marked "Pat. Dec. 21, 1915" which "Alloy Artifacts" connects to patent no. 1,164,815. The example shown in image (2) is marked WALDEN WORCESTER 6418 PAT. PEND. |
