Description: |
A combination alligator wrench, spoke nipple wrench, screwdriver and adjustable nut wrench. The movable jaw has rack teeth that are held in engagement with rack teeth on the main shank by the action of a lever handle.
A five-inch long version was produced and marketed as the "Best Wrench." It is noted in tool kits supplied with bicycles sold by Sears, Roebuck & Co. in the late 19th Century. Known examples marked "PAT APLD FOR" or with the patent date.
Corresponding Canadian patent CA-61,024 was granted Aug. 24, 1898. Tripp's middle name is listed in corresponding British patent GB-189718057. |
