This invention relates to wrenches, and has for an object, the provision of an improved type of automatically adjustable wrench. A more detailed object is the provision of a wrench wherein both gripping jaws are slidably mounted upon the shank, and which is provided with means for forcing the jaws together by squeezing the handle which is composed of a pair of relatively movable parts. A further object is the provision of a wrench having slidable jaws as described, the jaws being so arranged and operably connected to one of the handle sections, that when force is exerted upon the handle to turn the work gripped between the jaws, an extra degree of compression of the jaws upon the work is developed, this compression being proportional to the force exerted upon the handle.
