This invention pertains to that class of grinding machines known to the trade as "centerless grinders," because the body to be ground is not carried upon centers in a chuck or similar holder while being operated upon. The machine is designed for precision work and, more especially, for grinding to true cylindrical form and to predetermined gage, bodies such as rollers for antifriction bearings and for like uses, requiring great accuracy of form and dimensions, and uniformity of product. The objects sought are to produce a highly efficient machine of the class noted, which shall be simple in construction, adjustment, and operation, durable, and of as small first cost, and as low maintenance expense, as consistent with the efficiency required. These objects I attain by the construction illustrated in the accompanying, drawings, which show the best embodiment of my invention now known to me, though it is to be understood that variations of the structure may be made within the scope of the invention, and as may be required or suggested by different conditions of use. |
