Description: |
Pliers-type tool with hardened steel nipper jaw inserts pinned into place on malleable iron handles. Integral with the jaws are two narrow disks, which serve as the tool’s pivot point. Note that with this arrangement, wire cutting can only be accomplished near the outside edges of jaws. 7” long. Stamped PAT’D DEC. 2, 1890 on handle. (Patent 441,844 issued to George Hubbard of Windsor, Vermont on that date.) -- Bob Milliron.
Hubbard was the inventor; McClary the "financial" side of the partnership. The company's "big seller" was "diamond glazier's points," Hubbard having invented machinery for their manufacture which machines were treated as "trade secret" and never patented.
