Jeff Joslin Vintage Machinery entry for Charles E. Wright Co.
|
Description: |
The manufacturer made bandsaws themselves, but also sold these guides to other bandsaw makers. An ad in the May, 1919 issue of "The Wood-Worker" magazine features these guides, and lists six patent dates: Aug. 12, 1890; Feb. 10, 1891; March 28, 1891; April 12, 1891; April 25, 1893; March 4, 1913. The ad copy says, "Warning! Poor imitations of our Guide are on the market. Avoid any possibility of claim suits by sending us your orders direct." The March 28 1891 and April 12 1891 patent dates are invalid dates—patents are only issued on Tuesdays.Page 54 of the 1894 E. C. Atkins & Co. catalog shows Wright's Non Friction Saw Guide, with this patent date. The guide itself is labeled, "CROSS & SPEIRS / Makers / Waterbury / Conn." |
