Stan Schulz KEYES PATENT PLIERS and NIPPERS (1896 writeup) - FLICKR
|
Description: |
The gripping jaw faces are at right angle to the plane of the handle; the specifications indicate the same principle could be used to form "round-nose" pliers.
A "heavy sheet metal" 5-inch long pliers marked "PAT OCT 21 86" (may be a mis-read) matches this patent, another reported example reads "PAT OCT 21 '90"; Nelson B. Keyes was noted as a pliers and nippers manufacturer in 1893 issues of IRON AGE. An announcement in the August 8, 1896 issue of the CHICAGO JOURNAL OF COMMERCE notes Bridgeport Mfg. Co. was producing the KEYES Patent Pliers, wire cutters, and champagne nippers. |
