| The specifications describe how drill wrenches were manipulated in the oil fields of the time.
The focus of this patent is the ratchet action carriage and the rack it works on. The action of that mechanism is similar to that employed in "railroad jacks."
The patent eventually was found invalid because Forgie had gotten all the details from Josiah Barrett. The jack action was Barrett's and used in Barrett jacks produced by Duff Mfg. (see Patent Gazette June 19, 1894 pg. 1573-1576). |
