Jeff Joslin Vintage Machinery entry for Battle Creek Machinery Co.
|
Description: |
This lathe was seen in a ca. 1880 brochure for the "Marsh Cylinder Bed Foot Lathe" from Battle Creek Machinery Co. It is a foot-powered cylindrical-bed lathe with available attachments that included a tablesaw, scrollsaw, "bracket moulding", and a cross-slide and tool holder for metal turning. The patent does not claim the cylindrical bed, but rather the cylindrical bed with a lengthwise vee-groove plus tailstock and toolrest clamp each having a conical pin that engages the groove. The headstock is fixed.Inventor Elon Marsh was also granted patents 236,052, 254,807 and 308,567 (related to steam engines), and 194,698 (for a music stand). |
