Description: |
The hook jaw is pivoted from a block or nut which adjusts up and down the central threaded shaft. The fixed jaw has concave gripping faces. J. C. Johnson's Apr. 26, 1864 patent 42,489 differs in the face of the jaw on the main shank.
The corresponding Canadian patent (no. CA-18,115) was issued Nov. 17, 1883, and British patent GB-188304912 was registered Oct. 16,1883.
Known examples marked only "1890." The wrench was the subject of a Nov. 10, 1883 "Scientific American" write-up where it is called Taylor's Adjustable Pipe Wrench. |
