Description: |
The three-part gripping sleeve was designed for non-marring grip. The parts are designed with ribs and webs to avoid varying metal thicknesses which cause problems during casting. The parts interlock, and are held onto the handle by a spring latch. One handle would be supplied with a range of gripping sleeves corresponding to standard pipe sizes. Corresponding British patent GB-189518831 was registered Oct. 8, 1895.
The Parmelee wrenches use a similar three-part gripping sleeve, but those use pins to connect the segments -- (see patent nos. 379,123, 648,706, and 871,436). |
