Description: |
Ratchet-like pawls at the junction of the head and handle allow the angle between the head and handle to be adjusted. The head has a worm and rack adjustable movable jaw. The movable jaw optionally has a reversible jaw piece with smooth and pipe-gripping faces.
Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" posits this was produced at Denver. A 1911 ad from the Universal Wrench Co., Indianapolis, IN shows this design with "PAT APL FOR." The May 14, 1914 issue of THE AUTOMOBILE shows it produced at Sterling, Illinois.
The design was superceded by Bovee's Nov. 21, 1916 patent (no. 1,205,149). |
