Description: |
Having the inner end of the handle serve as the ratchet pawl insures the pawl releases on the "back swing" which is not always the case with spring tensioned pawls.
Compare this to the Vandiver J. Van Horn August 15, 1922 patent (no. 1,425,816) used for HINSDALE ratchet handles. It appears in the HINSDALE section of the Alloy Artifacts web site as an 11/16" hex Model T Ford transmission band adjustment tool, and as a 1/2" square drive ratchet for socket sets..
