The 1871-07-19 American Artisan had a front-page article on this invention; "Archibald's System of Wheel Manufacturing". "Circulars containing full information, with certificates from well-known manufacturers of all kinds of vehicles, will be furnished on application to the inventor."In 1871 the inventor established "E. A. Archibald", later the Archibald Wheel Company, to manufacture his patent wheels, which have an iron hub, oak spokes and fellies. During construction The wheels are radially compressed with a pressure of 10 to 100 tons during manufacture, using the mechanism described in this patent. Archibald had several other patents, e.g., 106,449 and 122,349. |
