Description: |
The primary claim of this patent relates to the longitudinally tapered dovetail channels for retaining the correspondingly shaped cutter inserts. The use of set screws to affix the inserts in place is also mentioned.
Original manufacture of CAREW nippers is hard to discern; by the early 20th Century they appear to have been made by Otis A. Smith at Rockfall, CT, with M.W. Robinson Co. at New York City as selling agent. In the 1953 THOMAS REGISTER, Otis A. Smith Co. is listed as a subsidiary of M.W. Robinson Co.
