Stan Schulz San Diego Specialty Works "SURE GRIP" Wrench
|
Description: |
The action combines features of a ratchet and a chain wrench. Known examples made of metal stampings.
The markings on Bessolo's patented tools may be only loosely related to the patents they reflect. The wrench matching this patent can be found with a variety of markings includes dates and numbers from later Bessolo patents -- 1,008,939, 1,037,109, 1,086,127, 1,158,164, 1,318,047.
A 1913 American Machinist article describes the manufacturing process used for producing the stamped parts comprising this wrench.
Bessolo's financial shenanigans involving his early wrench patents were noted in a February/March 1980 American Heritage article. He would get a community group to underwrite construction of a proposed factory, and somehow extracted funds and moved on before the project could be completed. Hardware trade journals have several "brief notices" announcing plans for Bessolo wrench factories that never became operational. In Red Bluff, CA the building was completed, and the ensuing financial chaos resulted in a lawsuit. The published summary of the suit does not include the patent numbers that were involved.
