Description: |
The improvement in this patent is a reversible hardened toothed plate for either the flat or beveled jaw on the pipe wrench side of the wrench. It is an improvement on Davis' previous patents (nos. 94,085 and 106,129).
The example of Davis' Duplex Wrench in "Antique and Unusual Wrenches" (#575) shows this separate piece with teeth -- the markings cite the earlier patent dates. An 1876 hardware catalog listing notes the "Reversible Steel Jaws" available for repair / replacement. |
