Description: |
The patent is primarily for the movable jaw with both flat and pipe-gripping surfaces, the internal spring, and the opening surrounding the adjusting nut. According to Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930," this patent along with Davis's August 9, 1870 (no. 106,129) and Nov. 24, 1871 (no. 120,947) patents was the basis for the DUPLEX wrench produced by the Philadelphia Tool Co. Several Davis wrenches appear in an 1876 hardware catalog from S.D. Kimbark (Chicago) -- see also entry for George C. Taft patent no. 97,988. |
