This locking pliers is adjusted by a turnbuckle extending between a lug on the handle containing the fixed jaw, and the movable jaw. The pivot point is a bolt which slides in a slot in the handle with the fixed jaw. The pliers' adjustment would "lock" as the turnbuckle moved past dead center. Shoulders on the two handles provide a "stop" to limit the handles' movement toward each other. Fischer received a subsequent patent (no. 2366015) which completely re-worked the design.
