Description: |
The patent addresses structural weaknesses in the ferrule attachment in Coes' previous patent 465,347. The ferrule has a distinctive shape with a "lobe" extending into the wooden portion of the handle on both sides. This patent is also noted in conjunction with Loring Coes' May 15, 1900 design patent no. D32,656 on early 20th Century Coes Knife Handle wrenches.
The wood "scales" on these 1891 / 1895 design handles are thin and easily broken. Examples of this style of COES wood handles are not as common as some of the older styles. |
