Stan Schulz Sinclair and others v. Backus
|
Description: |
Reversible ratchet; with the selection lever centered both pawls engage and the head will not rotate in relation to the handle. The patent was used for a long-lived series of rugged ratchet wrenches, and ratchet drill handles, and the design was copied and produced outside the U.S.
In Sinclair and others v. Backus, the patent was held to be valid. The suit challenged the ratchet feature of brace wrenches based on Backus' June 24, 1879 patent (no. 216,776). Part of the discussion in the case compared Moore's design to the Coggeshall ratchet. |
