Description: |
This is a simple patent covering insetting a small strip of metal into
the edge of a wooden ruler, to provide a sturdier edge. It also has the
benefit of being slightly off the paper, so that ink will not bleed under
it when used as a straightedge.
It is a simple design, but works well, and is still widely used nearly
150 years later.
