Vintage Machinery entry for Niagara Machine & Tool Works
Description:
This shear can cut both strips and circles. Known example marked "J. Waugh Elmira, NY PATD APR 24, 1860". After the patent had expired an updated version of this invention was manufactured by Niagara Machine & Tool Works of Buffalo, as their "Niagara Waugh's Circle Shears", which despite the name, could also cut strips. Waugh also patented a machine for trimming the edges of paper hangings on 1858-10-05, 21,710, which in turn was granted a rare "Additional Improvement" patent, AI219. Finally, he patented a boring machine, 24,252.
