Description: |
This is an enhancement to the famous Brodhead patent of 1868 (76,884)
which uses the same twist-lock head. The addition here is a small
spring to push the head against the cam when released.
Interestingly, the USPTO allowed Caris to claim the helical bar
clearly covered by the earlier patent, effectively issuing a second
patent for the exact same design. The gages produced under this
patent did not use the spring mentioned in the patent, so they are
nearly identical to the ones produced by the Star Tool Company 30
years earlier.
