Description: |
| Semi-circular jaws with beveled edges to crimp blasting cap onto fuse, and sharp edges to cut the fuse.
The patent was written up in the December 13, 1890 SCIENTIFIC AMERICAN SUPPLEMENT. German patent DE-68845 with effective date July 26, 1892 supplies Moodey's full name. The effective date of the German patent matches the date of Moodey's improvement patent 479,444, which added a "fuse splitter" function to the jaws.
Given the variety of "fuse pliers" patented and produced, in the absence of definitive markings, one can speculate about matching patents to "generic" tools of similar design. ATLAS POWDER CO. NO. 3 is an example of a possible match. |
