Description: |
The primary adjusting screw is typical for a monkey wrench of this type. The secondary final adjustment uses an extended lever handle connected to threaded base extending into a threaded socket in the ferule.
The wrench was advertised to the hardware trade in 1888, marketed as Taft's Vise Wrench. Known examples marked with a couple of different maker names.
Corresponding Canadian patent CA-27,810 was granted Oct. 13, 1887; the wrench also received British patent GB-188711095 registered Aug. 13, 1887.
Pat. no. 402,186 claims to be an improvement on supplementary tightening levers of this type. |
