Stan Schulz Cline's Monkey Wrench - 1889 writeup (FLICKR)
|
Description: |
A cam-shaped thumb lever in the back side of the movable jaw has ribs that engage rack teeth on the main shank to hold the adjustment. The movable jaw slides on the main shank and a parallel rod which also serves as the axis for the thumb lever.
Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" reprints a contemporary ad for the wrench, and notes Cline's Jan 5, 1892 patent (no. 466,456). |
