Description:

There are two hook jaws which can be used separately, or screwed together. The hook jaws have a stop which prevents them from swinging past the end of the fixed jaw.

In the known example marked only with this patent date along with November 11, 1883 (patent no. 289,188), the two jaw halves are riveted together at the tip; this may be an early "repair."
