Description: |
This patent was Stillson's improvement of his Oct. 12, 1869 pipe wrench patent (no.95,744). It added a second spring between the shank and adjustment frame to help keep the wrench from "locking" on irregular surfaces. This spring is found on larger sizes of Stillson pipe wrenches.
Caleb C. Walworth added further refinements in a patent issued Aug. 8, 1882 (no. 262,263).
The earliest 6 inch Stillson wrenches with a screwdriver in the end of the handle are marked with the 1872 patent date. |
