| Description: | | The title is misleading. The moveable jaw is held in position by a cam-lever, and the patented feature is a moveable jaw insert which enables the wrench to grip pipe or other round objects.
A GRAY BROTHERS (N.Y.) 1857 listing shows a HYDE's PATENT GRIPPING WRENCH that incorporates features of this patent and Hyde's Oct. 2, 1855 patent (no. 13,617). The directory also connects this firm to Gray's Ratchet Bed Key (see patent no. 71,871 for later manifestation). | |
