Description: |
Pliers type tool designed to manipulate cross links of "WEED" type tire chains. The wedge jaws spread clamped sections; the pincer sections close them.
Illustrations in contemporary ads and listings in period directories suggest this patent was produced as the NECESSITY chain repair tool, distributed by Chas. E. Miller Co. in 1913, and later by Stevens & Co. J.N. Macdonald & Co. of Wethersfield, CT appears as producer of the NECESSITY in the 1918 CHILTON AUTOMOBILE DIRECTORY, and may have been contract producer for other outlets.
See also Macdonald's patent nos. 965,722 and RE13,957 for a simpler design to accomplish the same task. |
