Description: |
Here's a pretty clever little contraption. It is a combination
marking gage and octagon gage (used to mark off square stock for
chamfering to an octagon), with a couple of extra marking points
thrown in for good measure. It is similar to the much earlier
Vaughan patent (190,934), but with better adjustability and
extra marking capabilities.
To mark off an octagon, the inner points would be adjusted to the
desired distance and the gage held such that both heads contacted
opposite sides of the workpiece. The interesting thing is that
this would work for even tapered pieces, since the same relative
ratio would be maintained as the gage moved!
