Description:

This is a normal-looking pair of dividers, with a special extra feature: the two marking points can be turned 90 degrees to the arms, the allowing the tool to be used as a marking gage. On the backs of the two marking points are a small reference face and a marking point. While this design is quite clever, it is not really very usable. The reference face on this gage is miniscule, and when considered in tandem with the unbalanced nature of the tool in use it would be quite difficult to make an accurate mark with it.

Production pieces do not provide the square reference face, but still have a reversible cutting arm. This allows the tool to be used for scribing or cutting circles, but not as a marking gage. These pieces are marked with the inventor name and patent date.
