In 1889 the inventors had obtained an Australian patent for what was arguably the first handheld electric drill, though it was large enough to considerably stretch the definition of "handheld". It is not clear what the intended purpose of this AC motor was; Brain was involved in coal mining and Arnot was a key figure in the electrification of Melbourne. |
