Vintage Machinery entry for Thomas Hall
Description:
This was the "Ideal" twist-drill grinder that was manufactured by the inventor, a New York City machinist. The inventor is better known as having patented and manufactured one of the earliest typewriters.

The improvement is to the bit-holder that references the groove associated with the cutting edge to be sharpened and orients the bit correctly as the bit advances toward the grinding wheel.
