Claim:

In an explosive-engine, the combination with the crank-shaft,of a reciprocating device, operative connections between it and the crankshaft for reciprocating said device once for each-revolution of the shaft, a valve-operating tumbler, a latch carried by said reciprocating device and adapted to engage said valve-operating tu mbler,a reciprocating cam-tumbler provided with a part adapted to ell-gage said latch and hold it out of engagement with the valve-operating tumbler and a cam-tumbler actuating latch carried by said reciprocating device.
