| The inventor was a prominent New York surgeon. "The present invention relates to improvements in rotary cutting and drilling instruments, and for sawing, drilling and the like, being adapted for cutting wood, metal and other materials, and especially desirable for the purpose of drilling and sawing into the bones of the human body..."The patent specification does not mention an assignee but the May 1921 Gazette of the United States Patent Office, vol. 286, No. 2, page xii, identifies the assignee shown here. According to the 1920-07-29 issue of Iron Age, "The International Surgical Instruments Co., New York, has been organized by J. Franck and C. Conovitz, 149 Broadway, to manufacture surgical instruments and equipment." We found a 1921 ad from them in an issue of Surgery, Gynecology and Obstetrics: "We take pleasure in announcing that we now have ready for immediate delivery the following apparatus and instruments: Original Forlanini's pneumothorax apparatus, Koriska's microscopes, Dr. Soresi's new all-position operating table, automatic gravity anaesthetizer, empyema cannula, catchall forceps, new electric bone set, and the best imported and domestic surgical instruments." An October 1921 ad in the same journal featured "The Ideal Syringe... Improved and used by Dr. A. L. Soresi of New York". This was the latest mention we could find of International Surgical Instruments Co. (ISICO). We could not find any evidence that this invention was ever manufactured. |
