Description: |
| The drawing is titled "Plow-clevis."
From the specifications: "This clevis is made of three pieces of cast iron, four wrought-iron bolts, and one small wrought-iron clevis." It enables adjustment for depth of plowing and width of furrow.
Van Brocklin's DOUBLE GAUGED CLEVIS is described in late 1840s and early 1850s agricultural journals. Van Brocklin apparently was offering territorial licenses to manufacture and distribute the clevis.
The structure may have been the forerunner to "two jaw plates & a cross-clevis" style clevises widely used in the late 19th & early 20th Century. |
