Jeff Joslin Vintage Machinery entry for John Bertram & Sons
|
Description: |
The Canadian equivalent of this patent is CA-122,545 and is assigned to the Ontario machine tool manufacturer John Bertram & Sons. We don't know if this patent was used by an American manufacturer, nor do we know how the inventor connected with a Canadian machine tool maker. The inventor, Charles Duncanson Young, would later (in the early 1920s) become commanding officer of the US 304th Engineer Regiment. He was recalled to duty sometime before the US joined World War II. In 1942 he was promoted to Brigadier-General. He spent the war working in procurement, distribution and transportation. He was released from active duty in 1945. In 1948 he received a Franklin Institute Award for his work on "Scientific Advancement of Steam Locomotive". He died in 1955 just before his 77th birthday. |
