Description:

According to woodworking machinery historian John Richards in an article in the Journal of the Franklin Institute, May 1870 (Vol. LIX no. 5), this patent "fully describes the use of feeding rolls for passing lumber to circular and other saws." That sentence was later plagiarized by the better-known Manfred Powis-Bale. This patent is considered to be the first to describe feed-works for sawing lumber.
